Hangover’s Feast

In the aftermath of festive cheer,
A hangover of indulgence near,
Overeating’s heavy toll we now bear,
A banquet’s aftermath is made quite clear.

The stomach groans, a plaintive sound,
A feast so grand, now left us tightly bound,
Leftovers linger on sides around,
A culinary joy, seemed so profound.

The excess echoes in each sigh,
A sluggish, overstuffed reply,
Overindulgence meets our eye,
In post-feast haze, we wonder ‘oh god’ why.

Regret may linger, heavy-hearted,
In the aftermath, calories best left charted,
Yet, in the warmth that meals impart,
A taste of joy, not soon to depart.
