Story
It is the 145th year of the second age. Life in Mercer is unrecognisable to that which came earlier – The bombs saw to that. Humanity may never fully recover…
Adventure beckons once more, and you are ready to answer its call!
How To
Mercer is the home of a Fallout inspired adventure game
There are two key game components to understand to get maximum fun:
- Mapping and Questing
- Battling
Mapping and Questing
The ‘Map’ tab is the central hub of this game – where you and your party will seek to save Mercer from the latest threat. – You and your party are represented by the Red Circle
- Towns/Shelter (and quest locations) are in purple
- Moveable land is in green (light green for plains, dark green for farmland)
- You can move your party using the arrow buttons (CellsAZ2-BB6)
- if you are ever stuck – refer back to the quest log for clues, or head to the nearest town to see if that will help!
Battle Mode
Note – If at any stage the battle mode seems too hard. Start a new campaign with ‘Disable Battle’ mode switched to yes, this will disable all battles and allow for peaceful adventuring/questing.
Battles can leave your party outnumbered – anywhere between 1 to 5 enemies will spawn to fight your party – so be prepared at all times!
Battles use a simplified version of DnD mechanics, with four features important to understand:
1. Initiative: The world of Mercer uses turn based battle mechanics. This means each creature takes it in turn to move and attack. The order of this is defined by an initiative dice roll, where the highest roll gets to go first. This order is set in the first round of combat and stays consistent throughout the battle
2. Range and Movement: Battles take place on a wide battle arena, where distance is important. Each ceature has their own movement they can achieve each turn, as well as different ranges of attack. You can only attack a creature if you are within range.
Melee creatures for example can only attack when they are next to another creature, but ranged attacks can benefit from being at a distance Make sure to track the distance between your party and your enemy!
3. Hitting an Enemy : Once you are in range of attacking the enemy, we now need to see if your attack hits or not. This hit roll is all based on armour class and randomly probability. If your roll falls below the enemy armour class, the attack will miss.
4. Damage Calculation: Each weapon and attack move has the capability of hitting a range of damage. This damage scales with your level Details on what dice and bonuses are added to your attack role are shown on the Character Stats screen (accessible via the map) .

Combat seems a little wonky at times (or am I not understanding how it works?)
For instance, there are two rats left in combat with 8hp each. My character does 11 points of damage, but both rats are still alive at the end of the turn.
Is there a way to debug this?

The only thing I can suggest looking at is your targetting (right hand side of the game screen). Unless you are correctly targeting alive enemies, your characters can hit dead enemies.
The idea behind the targeting system is to have a more strategic approach of which enemies you target first (depending on their range, type etc).

Thanks! I didn’t notice the target selection system.

hey stoyteller,
nice work! just tried out your game and encountered a problem with my excel 2016 version and uploaded a screenshot to
https://we.tl/t-3e5tkPIT6y
I encountered 4 enemys, 2 pairs of which have the same name. after killing 2 of them, future hits are always aimed at the already dead character while the name sibling never gets any hits.
since i don’t know the source code, i could imagine you may have used vlookup in line/row 3, which would explain why only the first enemies are hit and never the latter 2. one possible solution could be to rename foes by “Raider Warrior A” and “…B” etc.
all the best!

Hey. The issue is you have to change the enemy target yourself – this is all on the right hand side of the battle screen.
The idea is tactically you can choose which enemy to target when strategically

Hey Author!
This stuff is great! But what if someone wanted to have a look under the hood to see how things work?
For example: when you start the campaign, you can choose the class for yourself and your sidekick. I know you must choose for yourself first and then you can’t choose same class for sidekick but the game allows you to choose the “empty” class, then the character is broken.
That, and the pictures not working.
And anything else working weirdly. I mean, coding is part of the game (I swear I won’t cheat)
Thanks in advance.

Didn’t expect it to, but just so that someone wrote it, doesn’t work in LibreOffice.
I got a syntax error in line 22 in Module1 about TopLeftCell not being a method after hitting start.

Thanks for sharing. It’s only made for excel – but was worth checking it out in Libre!

If anyone is wondering, I also tried in Libre and got the same error. I thought maybe it would work by converting the file to .Ods (native file of Libre) but it is password protected. After reading your message, im pretty sure it wouldn’t work anyway.
